Last year was an amazing year. It was a hard year. It was a rewarding year. It was one of those years that will be etched in my heart forever. So many things happened that it would take more than a blog post to cover them all. On top of going full-time into the photography business and celebrating our first year as home owners, we became FIRST TIME PARENTS!!! I know, I know… the whole taking your business into your own hands and having a baby at the same time might sound crazy. And it is! Nothing is the same anymore. Everything changes.
While I love my job, I love my son MORE. We are so blessed to have him and sometimes we feel like we don’t even deserve such an amazing baby. He literally is the most amazing boy. Though his schedule was (and still is) pretty consistent, I still wasn’t able to get all the things on my to-do list done by the end of the day. So I had to come up with a plan in order to be able to be 100% mom and 100% business owner. My son deserves me to be there for him 100% and so do my couples.
Here are the things I have learned this past year:
If you don’t have enough time, you make time — I am serious! I have learned how to work faster and more efficiently. Not only that, but I have learned not to get so easily distracted all the time. The key is to really stay focused on what you are doing and take one step at a time. Kenneth’s naps can seem so short when I try to work on multiple projects at the same time and don’t finish any of them. This leads to my tip #2 — planning.
Planning — I schedule everything for my business: returning emails, meetings, engagement sessions, blog posts, etc. Saying that my day planner is my life would be a little too much, but it definitely comes in handy every.single.day. That book never leaves my desk. And to be honest, it feels SO good when, at the end of the day, I get to cross out all the things I accomplished.
