I’m sure you’ve already heard this many times, but we can’t stress it enough: ENJOY YOUR WEDDING! The day fades too fast! You’ve spent hours, days, months planning all the details to make sure that your big day runs flawlessly. How exactly do you plan to make the most of the little time you have to enjoy with your dear ones at your wedding?
Our solution: book an after-wedding session and spend the time you would have used for bride-and-groom portraits with your guests instead. It’s not like they have traveled far and wide to see you?!
So what is an after-wedding session after all?
It is a great way to capture some more shots of a bride and groom in a more relaxed setting, which is typically done one or two weeks after the wedding. Obviously you should have pictures of yourselves together on your big day, but those are not always the most candid because there are so many things going on. By choosing to do an after-wedding shoot, you are able to get some more great pictures of you as a lovely couple that you can cherish for a life-time.
Still contemplating whether or not to schedule an after-wedding session? Here are 3 reasons why we believe you should:
- LOCATION
While your venue is undoubtedly charming (you wouldn’t be getting married there if it wasn’t), does it provide enough variety to have your bride-and-groom portraits taken? During an after-wedding session, you are not constrained to one location only. Choose a place that resembles who you are as a couple, or try new locations. It will be well worth it! You want to make sure that when you look back at these pictures in the future, you see the beauty in yourselves as well as the scenery around you.
- TIME
During a typical wedding, you will only have an hour (tops) to have your portrait shots taken. To me, this doesn’t seem like an efficient amount of time to truly capture the love between the special couple. Although you may be thinking that an hour is a long time, in reality it isn’t. I say this because it is not a continuous hour of just shooting pictures, it is walking around to different locations and capturing specific elements at each point. If you try to squeeze all of your portrait pictures into the wedding day, there is a good chance that you will end up behind schedule which usually results in the guests being neglected. When you choose to have an after-wedding session, there are no issues with timing and the proper amount of photos can be taken.
- YOUR GUESTS
It is essential to spend time with friends and family on your wedding day! The chances are that you will have guests that travel from far distances to spend this special day with you. The last thing that you want them to do is walk away from your wedding wondering why you did not make it a point to be with them. You also do not want them to think back on your wedding in the future with a memory of being neglected. You are now going to be spending most of your time with your new spouse and should take this available time at the wedding to be with others. Make sure that everyone feels included!
Deciding to do an after-wedding session allows you to get more of everything. More time with your spouse captured on camera. More things to show family and friends at get-togethers. More time with guests at the wedding. After all, they came to honor you!

An after wedding session sounds like a great idea. I’d never heard of that before.

Thanks, Christen.
I love this idea! I was so unhappy with my wedding pictures, this would of been a perfect solution
I’ve never heard of such a session. That’s pretty cool, and it totally makes sense!!
I’ve never heard of an after wedding session. Interesting idea!
That’s a interesting idea! Wish we had done something like that, but I mainly regret the video taping disaster – pictures we had taken were awesome!
What a lovely idea! (and that bride’s red cardigan is fabulous!)
This is new to me! I haven’t heard of these sessions before. What a good idea.
I love this idea. I need some shots of my hubs & me after 25 years.
That would be a really great gift for your anniversary!
After-wedding photo shoots are a wonderful idea! I’ll never forget the wedding I attended that took absolutely for-ev-er to take their photos while the guests sat around bored in an overly-lit ballroom. The hotel was pretty, but very plain for a background. Great advice!
What an awesome idea!
This sounds like a great idea. I had never heard of this before but I would have loved doing this when I got married.
