Looking for luxury wedding cakes in Leesburg, Virginia? I recently met with Jisoo from Jisoo Cake Design who specializes in fine art wedding cakes. Her work is beyond impressive, so I knew that I had to have her on the blog. She is extremely talented and I know that you will love this interview I did with her.
How did you become interested in professional baking?
J: I majored in fine art painting, so I was always eager to create art. Moreover, I’ve always loved feeding people. Creating wedding cakes is the perfect combination to combine these two elements!
What was your first baking job?
J: My first commission was a 3 tier “All Star” canvas theme 1st birthday cake.
Tell us about the largest or most complicated wedding cake you have ever created.
J: The most sophisticated cake I have ever created was a 5 tiered silver wedding cake that was full of white roses. I spent four full days making those roses and they turned out amazing.
Apart from wedding cakes, what are your favorite things to bake?
J: Recently, I started baking sourdough bread. It may sound funny, but I even gave my sourdough starter a name! It’s a great therapy to treat my impatience.
How far in advance should brides inquire about luxury wedding cakes with you?
J: The sooner the better in order to secure the date, but as long as I’m available, I’m open to any rush orders too!
What have been the most popular flavors and fillings in the recent years?
J: My all time favorite flavor is vanilla cake with passion fruit curd and chocolate buttercream. I love the combination of the tang from passion fruit and bitter-sweet chocolate. For my clients, surprisingly, purple yam (ube) cake with homemade purple yam spread and coconut buttercream is very popular.
What do you find most fulfilling about being a baker?
J: It’s simple: the happiness on my clients’ faces when they see and taste their cake for the first time. Nothing can beat that!
