Ravens Roost engagement photos are always breathtaking, but Allyson and Cody’s session was extra special. Between the gorgeous mountain views, soft evening lighting, and the sweetest couple, this engagement session at Raven’s Roost Overlook and Devils Knob in Wintergreen was such a dream to photograph.
We started their session at Devils Knob Overlook near Wintergreen, where the Blue Ridge Mountains stretched endlessly behind them. Allyson had previously shared with me that she envisioned mountain engagement photos, and these locations could not have been a more perfect backdrop for their session.

How They Met
One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is hearing how coupes met and learning the story that brought them here. Allyson and Cody met online while they were both attending pharmacy and medical school at West Virginia University. Even thought Allyson didn’t expect much to come from downloading a dating app, Cody ended up being her first and last online date. Honestly, I love stories like that because they remind us how unexpected love can be.
The Proposal
Their proposal story was just as thoughtful and meaningful. After Thanksgiving dinner with Allyson’s family, Cody suggested going on a walk together. They walked with family members and their Great Pyrenees before heading back toward the house. As everyone else went inside, Cody led Allyson toward the back deck where he had created the sweetest setup with rose petals, balloons, flowers, and letters spelling out “Will you marry me?” She, of course, said YES and now they are planning the wedding of their dreams at Glencliff Manor in Rustburg, VA.
I’m so incredibly excited to photograph Allyson and Cody’s wedding day. They are envisioning a garden party filled with bright florals surrounded by family and friends, and Glencliff Manor the perfect venue for their vision. I can’t wait to be back there soon! Sessions like these are such a gift to photograph, and I already know their wedding day is going to be absolutely beautiful.
